Project Description:

This large, dead fir tree stood in a landscape island in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot, just steps from the Chase Bank building and Sherman & Bean coffee shop. With extensive crown dieback and no live foliage left, the tree posed a real risk to the building, parking lot, and foot traffic below, especially with a busy retail lot on all sides.

Given the tree’s height and how tight the surrounding space was, with a bank building, light poles, and parked cars all within striking distance, our crew brought in a 115-ton crane to handle the removal safely and with full control. A climber ascended into the canopy and rigged each section for the crane to lower straight down, piece by piece, rather than letting any part of the tree free-fall. The crane held steady in the parking lot while the operator worked with the climber to guide each cut section clear of the building and parked vehicles.

Once the trunk and canopy were down, the crew loaded the wood onto a dump truck, chipped the brush and smaller limbs on site, and ground the stump flush with the ground. The lot was left clean and ready for normal traffic with minimal disruption to the shopping center.
